The State requests another extension.

TWO EXTENSION REQUESTS | June 9 and October 20, 2026 | A.C. 47877

Whether you support Michelle Troconis, question her conviction, or are simply following the case, timely appellate review should matter to everyone.

In its latest motion, dated October 20, the State of Connecticut requests another extension to file its response to Michelle's appeal, moving the deadline from October 30 to December 4, 2026. If granted, that would place the deadline nearly a year after the original December 2025 due date.

The motion reports that the State has finished reviewing the trial transcript and completed its response to the first of seven issues raised on appeal.

“It is well known that justice delayed is justice denied.” — Michelle’s appellate counsel, Pamela Nagy

In her February 5, 2025 motion for extension, Michelle’s appellate counsel explained that additional time was necessary in significant part because of deficiencies in the court record. Incomplete or inaccurate record-keeping required repeated amendments to the transcript order, adding nearly 1,000 pages and delaying counsel’s ability to review the record. Counsel also cited competing cases and supervisory responsibilities.

By contrast, the State’s latest extension request cites the length of the trial, competing caseload demands, teaching and supervisory responsibilities, and the prosecutor’s upcoming wedding. Notably, although the trial was lengthy, the State presented its case over approximately 25 days, compared with just two days for the defense.

In June, the State reported having reviewed approximately 55 percent of the transcript and having not yet drafted its brief. The time already afforded and the progress now reported raise a serious question: How much longer should Michelle have to wait for her appeal to move forward?

Michelle remains incarcerated after being denied release on appeal bond. A meaningful opportunity to challenge her conviction requires both a complete record and timely appellate review.

We respectfully hope the Appellate Court will consider the importance of moving this appeal forward without further delay.

We encourage you to review the court filing to gain a better understanding of the legal process from the official court document.
